What is actually LAN??

- A LAN is a network that connects computers and devices in a limited or in a small geographical area.
- LAN is widely use in school computer laboratory, home, office building.
- The simplest form of LAN is to connect two computers together or connection of the computers and devices in the office or home.
- LAN is also a connections of less than 500 interconnected device across several building.
The characteristics of LAN:
- Mainly use in small areas.
- LAN is generally limited to specific geographical area less than 2km to have get a high speed connection.
- Offer high speed connection typically 100 Mbps or higher.
- They provide access for many devices.
- LAN has a specific equipment such as hubs, switches and network interface card.

FIVE components of LAN:
- Network devices such as printers.
- Network Communications Devices such as hubs, routers, switches and components that used for network connectivity.
- Network Interface Cards this is required to access the network. It is the interface between the machine and the physical network.
- Cables as a physical transmission medium.
- Network Operating System software applications required to control the use of network operation and administration.
